Myofascial Pain Syndrome Definition

Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) is a condition characterized by chronic and, in some cases, severe pain. It is associated with and caused by “trigger points” (TrPs), which are localized and sometimes extremely painful contractures (“knots”) found in any skeletal muscle of the body.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome Symptoms
The symptoms can range from referred pain through myofascial trigger points to specific pains in other areas of the body. The pain can be made worse with activity or stress. In addition to the local or regional pain associated with myofascial pain syndrome, people with the disorder also can suffer from depression, fatigue and behavioral disturbances.
