Our Pain Management Doctor helped this patient suffering for years from chronic low back pain:

Patient:               60 year old female
Diagnosis:         Lumbar Radiculopathy (Sciatica)
Treatment:        Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection for chronic pain

Cindy, one of our highly trained clinical staff, had the pleasure of helping care for this patient and discusses her case in more detail here:

Cindy with the AutoclaveAfter three years of ongoing low back and leg pain/weakness and multiple failed epidural steroid injections at other pain clinics this patient decided to consult with Dr. Sakai based on a recommendation from a friend. At the initial visit, she presented with a lumbar spine MRI showing a disc herniation at L5/S1 impinging the correlating nerve roots and a pain score of 8/10.

After a thorough examination and consideration of the previous diagnostic imaging findings, Dr. Sakai diagnosed her with Lumbar Radiculopathy (Sciatica) and suggested she give injections another try. A right sided Lumbar Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection was performed the following week.

Two weeks later at the time of her follow-up visit, she reports feeling more than 50% better, rating her pain a 2/10. She is very pleased with the results noting she is now able to drive, walk long distances without breaks, and lift her grandson.

Overall she feels like her general health as a whole has improved because she’s able to enjoy life again. This patient success story is important because as it demonstrates, not all pain management physicians have the same level of training and technical expertise performing interventional procedures. For this reason, you may see varying results based on who performs the procedure. So it’s crucial that you choose your pain doctor carefully.

By selecting a physician like Dr. Sakai who is board certified and ACGME Fellowship trained in Pain Medicine and has extensive experience performing thousands of procedures successfully, you will have the best shot at reducing or eliminating your pain and getting back to normal activity.
